Zcash Foundation releases Zebra 7.0.0 with NU7 support for Mainnet

The Zcash Foundation announced Zebra 7.0.0, the first stable release supporting NU7 on Mainnet, which activates at block height 3,543,405, planned for around November 5. NU7 cuts target block spacing from 75 seconds to 25 seconds, reserves 60% of each block's transaction fees under ZIP 235, and sets per-block shielded limits. The Foundation said the 21 million ZEC supply cap and four-year halving schedule remain unchanged.

What sources claim

  • The Zcash Foundation said NU7 activates on Mainnet at height 3,543,405, planned for around November 5, and that all Mainnet node operators must upgrade before activation to stay on the consensus chain.
  • The Zcash Foundation said NU7 cuts target block spacing from 75 seconds to 25 seconds under ZIP 218, while the amount of ZEC issued per day stays the same, with block rewards divided by three.
  • The Zcash Foundation said ZIP 235 places 60% of each block's transaction fees into a reserve while miners keep 40%, and that NU7's limits raise Orchard throughput from 2.9 to 6.6 transactions per second and cut worst-case sync bandwidth by about 37%.

Still unresolved

  • What date NU7 actually activates on Mainnet, given the Foundation's stated height 3,543,405 and a planned timing of around November 5, would be confirmed by the final activation block and timestamp on the Zcash main chain.
  • Whether the components of the release candidate's breaking configuration and RPC changes cause operators upgrading from Zebra 6.x to hit issues would be confirmed by operator reports or Foundation guidance after the migration.

Evidence levels describe source coverage, not the probability that a report is true. Price moves and their timing cannot establish a cause; minute samples show an observed interval and alert thresholds are heuristics. Explanations are model-assisted, with citations and figures checked. Source titles stay in their original language; full articles are not republished.
