Three firms notify SEC of plans for tokenized stock trading venues

Three companies — Tokenized Stock Venue, Perpetuals.com and OKX — have notified the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission of plans to operate venues trading tokenized stocks, the SEC said in a Wednesday announcement reported by Bitcoin Magazine. OKX filed alongside Intercontinental Exchange for a platform called OKXICE. The SEC said listing does not mean the firms meet all rule requirements.

Claims and open questions

What sources claim

  • The SEC said Tokenized Stock Venue, Perpetuals.com and OKX submitted plans to operate by allowing trading of tokenized stocks, per Bitcoin Magazine.
  • OKX, along with Intercontinental Exchange, was the first to file with the regulator to debut tokenized securities trading on a new platform, OKXICE, Bitcoin Magazine reported.
  • The SEC said in September it was offering a five-year exemption to platforms that facilitate trading of tokenized stocks, and said Wednesday that being on the list does not necessarily mean the firms meet all requirements for the rule, per Bitcoin Magazine.

Still unresolved

  • What specific terms or conditions the SEC attached to the September five-year exemption, and what the firms' filings propose, would need the SEC's official rule text or the filings themselves.
  • Whether OKXICE has received approval to launch, rather than just filing a notification, would need a further SEC statement or OKX announcement.
